Tiger eye is one of the most desirable gemstones that is found in  Western Australia.
It occurs in the rugged Hamersley Ranges of the Pilbara region.
This is an area that is extremely rich in iron ore, with many huge mines currently operating.

Tiger eye is found in a few limited areas in these iron formations.
The best known area is near Mount Brockman.
A ridge of hills about 6 miles long, has produced good quality material from a number of small deposits.

This is a particularly rare variety that has stunningly chatoyant reds and blues with black mirror-like magnetite.
